The arrival in New York Harbor of the gigantic ocean liner ss Normandie in 1935 inaugurated a new era in transatlantic travel. The Normandie set new standards of luxury and speed, steadiness, comfort and safety when traveling aboard ship. From keel to crow’s-next, she was different, not merely the largest liner afloat, but in almost every respect Normandie was a new kind of ocean liner.
